Betsson, part of the BML Group, faces a substantial €2.4M fine levied by Finnish regulators.
The Finnish Police Board has imposed this fine since Betsson contravened the Finnish Lotteries Act, mandating that only locally licensed firms can promote betting services in Finland.
This penalty arose because BML crafted marketing content specifically targeting Finnish consumers, promoting gambling services directly.
Several warnings
The Finnish Government had alerted BML Group multiple times, prompting some alterations in their marketing strategies aimed at the Finnish audience.
However, these changes didn't substantially alter the situation, as Betsson’s ads continued to be visible in Finnish digital spaces, leading to the conditional fine issued in April.
The €2.4M fine is appealable and conditional, with enforcement beginning on June 3rd.
Gambling Laws in Canada
Canada’s gambling regulations differ across its 10 provinces, each like Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Alberta, adopting distinct gambling laws.
Casinos we examine in Canada are generally free to market to most provinces, though some have specific guidelines around promotions and language.
